Silicone has fantastic temperature resistance (it can be used at minus 40 degrees and up to 230°), lasts a lifetime, is odourless, tasteless and non-corrosive. It's, of course, also fully safe for food use.
The end of the handle is made of beech wood and boasts an anti-humidity treatment, and the wooden handle and spatula body are joined through a stainless steel tube.

I bought a set of steel bowls with a lid and an orange silicone base. They are great and versatile, they come in three different sizes and fit neatly inside one another to take up less space. They serve both to store food in the fridge without drying out or taking on other odours, to rise dough, to prepare cookies, biscuits, etc., to prepare and serve salads, in short, for many things.
